These baskets are made by a group of women living in Machako County, Kenya. They upcycle plastic that was rejected by bag companies. The women also make baskets out of sisal, but they prefer the plastic because it is easier on their hands. Making baskets is very empowering for the women because they can work on them any time they find themselves having to wait. For example, they can weave when they go to fetch water or when they watch their cattle at night.

Medium baskets are approximately 8 x 8 inches. Large baskets are approximately 10 x 10 inches.
